For me, artistic expression with needle and fiber is at the core of who I am and have always been. When asked, "what will you be when you grow up?” I am the child who always answered "An Artist!" Working in fiber became my life-long journey. I designed original fashions for my dolls, sewed my own clothes, and as a teen, took an after school sewing job in a leather shop. At Northern Illinois University, Fine Arts Department I tried every medium and majored in weaving. For many years following college I worked in alterations, tailoring, and custom sewing. I've designed and made everything from wedding ensembles to tipis. I have developed and practiced my needle and fiber skills for more than 40 years. For the past 10 years I have developed my unique form of painting using beads as my "paint", needle and thread as my "brushes", and fabric as "my canvas". Fiber is the stuff of my artistic journey, from my earliest functional works to my present pure artistic expression… painting with beads |
