CADENCE 2001 RECORD POLL

This year there were some issues that, while they received nominations from more individuals than most
other releases, did not place in the listings due to a lower vote total.  Some of the higher ranked listings
received their relatively high placement due to the fact that the individuals who voted for those particular
releases consistently awarded the maximum amount of 5 points to the issue.  In the past we have had
obvious attempts to stack the vote in a coordinated campaign on the part of an individual or individuals to
"elect" a particular issue or artist.  We don't believe that was the case this year, but simply a case of
enthusiasm from certain quarters for certain artists in recognition of efforts of undeniable quality.

Instead of one vote per nomination, readers cna nominate recordings by awarding up to 5 points for each
recording but no more than a total of 25 points in each category (New Issues or Reissues).  Writers are
limited to 10 choices in each category and can choose onlyfrom records reviewed in Cadence issues
December 2000 through November 2001.  The Editor's choices are also limited to those dates, but he can
list as many releases as he wishes.

So, here is the 2001 Readers' & Writers' Poll.  If you don't find anything familiar in it, consider it an
excellent guide if you're interested in finding out what all the fun is about.  It is - if nothing else - a hip
listing for the hippest of readers.
